do you know what is plagiarism?

Have you ever had queries in your mind what does it mean by plagiarism? Have you ever looked any plagiarism happen in front of you? Have you ever think that you may be the one who involve in plagiarism? I am sure that many of you have these experienced these situations one way or another. As we know Malaysia is a truly blessed and independent country, however the plagiarism activities still remain in our country and this issue become worst. Today, I’m standing here to inform you some points about the plagiarism, strategies to detecting and strategies to deterring plagiarism.
There are many ways to detecting plagiarism. Format, strange formatting may indicate material cut and pasted from a web document or a paper from a paper mill. Is the formatting what was required by the assignment? Are there line breaks or page breaks at odd places? Is there a URL or article number at the end of the paper? Are there odd or out of place sentences such as "click here" or "graphic omitted" that might indicate a former incarnation as a web page or online journal article? Second, Citations. Citations can be a big clue to plagiarized work. Are all of the citations old? Online paper mills often include old papers with even older citations. Are a large number of the citations to materials that the library does not own? Most undergraduate students do not interlibrary loan much or any of their cited works. (They may have used a hometown library, however.) Are the citations consistent with the content? Does the bibliography match the citations or footnotes in the text? Third is style, These style questions might also point to poor or exceptional writing skills, but style can be a good indicator of a plagiarized paper. Is the writing style and level consistent with the student's previous work? Is the level of writing far below or above the writing of others in the class? (This can, of course, indicate an exceptional student. However, it might indicate plagiarizing of a published article, or a high school-level paper from a paper mill.) Are past events referred to in the present tense or as if they are recent? Is the style of the paper (expository, creative, etc.) what the assignment required? Fourth is content, Content can be very revealing. It can be difficult for the plagiarizing student to find a paper that really meets the assignment. Does the paper match the assignment? Did the student ask for a last-minute change of topic? This could be an indication of intention to submit a plagiarized paper. Does the paper seem pieced together? This could indicate that a student is plagiarizing a paper by piecing together multiple, uncited sources. Is the student's relevant information appended to less relevant or overly general content? This could indicate a student's attempt to adapt another person's work to fit the assignment.
The second, the to deterring plagiarism. Talk to student about plagiarism. Make sure students know what plagiarism is and what the penalties are for plagiarizing. The Student Information Handbook has a section on academic dishonesty that explains what plagiarism is and what the penalties are.
Talk about the ethical and legal issues of fair use and intellectual property. Many students think that if there is no copyright symbol on a resource, it is not copyrighted and therefore up for grabs. Show students how to correctly cite sources, print and electronic. We have included an exercise which you can use with your students to help them understand when and how to cite sources. Second, Creative on your assignment. Creative assignments undermine online paper mills that rely on professors assigning the same assignments as their peers at other institutions. Look outside of your discipline for example assignments and adapt them. Use unique formats like newsletters or exhibits for your students to exercise their communication talents. Third is Emphasize writing as a process. Set a series of dates throughout the semester for progressive steps of the research process: topic due date, preliminary bibliography, outline, rough draft, final annotated bibliography, and final draft.
Have some in-class writing times.
As a conclusion, we can sum up plagiarism as an act of
academic dishonesty that must be deterred so that it is literary not offending the copyrights and pattern law. Let us together make ourselves free from plagiarism in order to maintain the peacefulness of our country

For other uses, see Plagiarism (disambiguation).
Plagiarism (from the Latin plagiare, "to kidnap") is the practice of claiming, or implying, original authorship of (or incorporating material from) someone else's written or creative work, in whole or in part, into one's own without adequate acknowledgement. Unlike cases of forgery, in which the authenticity of the writing, document, or some other kind of object, itself is in question, plagiarism is concerned with the issue of false attribution. Plagiarism can also occur unconsciously; in some cultures certain forms of plagiarism are accepted because the concept can be interpreted differently.
Within academia, plagiarism by students, professors, or researchers is considered academic dishonesty or academic fraud and offenders are subject to academic censure. In journalism, plagiarism is considered a breach of journalistic ethics, and reporters caught plagiarizing typically face disciplinary measures ranging from suspension to termination. Some individuals caught plagiarizing in academic or journalistic contexts claim that they plagiarized unintentionally, by failing to include quotations or give the appropriate citation. While plagiarism in scholarship and journalism has a centuries-old history, the development of the Internet, where articles appear as electronic text, has made the physical act of copying the work of others much easier, simply by copying and pasting text from one web page to another.
Plagiarism is different from copyright infringement. While both terms may apply to a particular act, they emphasize different aspects of the transgression. Copyright infringement is a violation of the rights of the copyright holder, when material is used without the copyright holder's consent. On the other hand, plagiarism is concerned with the unearned increment to the plagiarizing author's reputation that is achieved through false claims of authorship.
